    Substitutions for this Recipe:

Unsalted Butter: Butter is essential to this recipe. We haven't tried it with dairy free butter but it might work!

Sugar: We don't recommend substituting white sugar unless you have to, but White sugar can be used interchangeably with brown sugar. You can add 1 teaspoon of molasses to white sugar to make brown sugar. Check out this post on Sugar Substitutes for Baking for other ideas.

Eggs: We don't recommend substituting eggs, but you can read this article on Egg Substitutions for Baking if you need to substitute. Try it at your own risk!

Vanilla Extract: Helps to add flavor, we don't recommend substituting.

All Purpose Flour: We don't recommend substituting the flour, but you can check out this article on Cake Flour vs. All-Purpose Flour or Substitutions for All-Purpose Flour

Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: Essential in adding a tasty chocolate flavor, we don't recommend substituting.

Salt: Helps to add flavor, we don't recommend substituting.

Baking Powder: Baking powder is essential for this recipe. Do NOT substitute with baking soda.

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups: Regular Reese's cups are what we use in this recipe, though many of the Reese's candies would likely work, but haven't been tested.

Tips & Variations for this recipe

    • Other Chocolate Candies: Leftover Halloween candy? Use some of your favorite chocolate candy bars to give your brownies another layer of flavor.
    • Warm Peanut Butter Drizzle: Gently warm peanut butter to drizzle on top of your baked brownies before cutting.
    • Allow to cool completely: Allow to cool before cutting and serving, this will help them to maintain their shape.

    Reese's Cup Brownies FAQ

    What makes a brownie moist?

Brownies will typically call for eggs and oil, creating a very moist and fudgy brownie. However, our recipe doesn't contain oil, with the exception of any oils added to the candy pieces, but is still just as moist and fudgy.

    What makes brownies more fluffy?

Baking powder and baking soda will help to lift and fluff your brownies giving them a cakey texture. If your recipe calls for two eggs, removing an egg will also give a cakey, fluffy texture.

Do you add brownie toppings before or after baking?

Most brownies will have their toppings added before baking. Brownies that have a drizzle, or a dusting of powdered sugar will have their toppings added after they've been baked and cooled.

Made these for a family get together today — sooo yummy! I did have to bake them a little longer than instructed, but that was no big deal. Will definitely make again!
