    Ingredients

This easy no bake recipe comes together with just a few simple ingredients you might already have in your pantry:

See ingredient substitutions in the next section. ⬇️

    • Oreo cookies: You can use Double Stuf cookies if you want more of the creme flavor.
    • Rice Krispies or any other crispy rice cereal.
    • marshmallows: For this recipe, be sure to use regular size marshmallows, not the big campfire squares.
    • butter: Personally, I use salted butter, but unsalted will also work.
    • vanilla extract: This ingredient is optional, but it adds a boost of flavor.

    Substitutions and Recipe Variations

    • Oreos: Any brand of chocolate sandwich cookies will work.
    • butter: Although I haven't tested this recipe using margarine or plant-based butter substitutes, they should work fine.
    • vanilla extract: You can omit this ingredient if you want, or If you need an alcohol-free flavoring, you can use vanilla essence.

    Fun Recipe Twists

Swap out the crispy rice cereal for another crunchy or crispy cereal. Frosted Flakes or Cocoa Krispies would be good, or for a fun and colorful treat, use Fruity Pebbles.

Liz's Tips for the Best Oreo Krispie Treats

    1. Use low heat. Melting the marshmallows slowly is the key to soft and gooey crispy treats.
    2. Crush the Oreo cookies to your liking. For a more intense cookies & cream flavor, finely crush them; for more crunch, leave some bigger chunks.
    3. Include mini marshmallows for extra gooeyness. Just stir ½ cup of whole mini marshmallows into the mixture before pressing into the pan.
    4. Use parchment paper when pressing the mixture into the pan. It prevents sticking and helps you to spread the mixture out evenly.
    5. Let them cool completely before cutting. This is the best way create clean, sharp squares.
    6. For an extra rich cookies and cream dessert, drizzle the top of the squares with melted white chocolate!

How to Keep No Bake Bars Fresh and Soft

Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. To keep them extra soft, add a slice of bread to the container

    FAQs

Can I use marshmallow fluff instead of marshmallows?

Marshmallow creme is a great substitute for melted marshmallows Krispie treats. However, because this is a microwave Rice Krispies treats recipe, you'll want to reduce the microwave power to around 70%.

Can I use mini marshmallows instead of regular marshmallows?

Yes! You can substitute 5 cups of mini marshmallows for the 40 regular size marshmallows in the recipe.

How do I keep Rice Krispie treats soft?

Don’t overheat the marshmallows. Melting them too quickly affects the consistency, which can make the treats hard. Also, use fresh marshmallows—stale ones don’t melt as well. Lastly, press the mixture gently into the pan—don’t pack it too tightly.

Can I use a different flavor of Oreos?

Absolutely! For a fun twist, make this recipe with Golden Oreos, Lemon Oreos, Mint Oreos, or Birthday Cake Oreos.
