During the summer months, it can be challenging to create delicious desserts that hold up well in the heat. That's where no bake desserts are the perfect solution!

Look for ideas that don't require you to flip on an oven, so both you and your kitchen stay cool! Things like Oreo Rice Krispie treats, fruit salad, no-bake cookies, or a simple no bake pie are a snap to make!

This Nutella pie recipe includes an Oreo cookie crust that comes together really quickly in a food processor or blender. The fluffy chocolate hazelnut pie filling is creamy, cool, and so delicious!

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    1. No baking required.
    2. Perfect for picnics, potlucks, and outdoor parties.
    3. Very little hands-on time. There's just 15 minutes of prep; the rest of the time, the pie is chilling in the fridge.

    Ingredients

See ingredient substitutions in the next section. ⬇️

You'll only need 3 ingredients for the pie filling, and 2 ingredients for the crust:

    Pie crust

    • Oreo cookies: I use the original version, not the Thins or Double-Stufs.
    • butter: You'll need just a tiny bit of melted butter, to hold the cookie crumbs together.

    Nutella pie filling

    • 13-ounce jar of Nutella. If you've never tasted it, Nutella is a sweet, creamy chocolate hazelnut spread. At the grocery store, it's usually stocked in the peanut butter/nut butter aisle.
    • whipped topping: I use Cool Whip because it's convenient. Just be sure to thaw it in the fridge before you use it.
    • block-style cream cheese: You'll need an 8-ounce block.

    Substitutions and Recipe Variations

Here are some substitutions, should you need them:

    • butter: I have not tested this recipe using non-dairy butter substitutes, but I think they will work just fine.
    • cookies: Any brand or flavor of sandwich cookies can be used. If you prefer a graham cracker pie crust, substitute the cookies with graham cracker crumbs.
    • cream cheese: Full fat cream cheese will give you a thick, rich pie filling. Varieties that are lower in fat have more water in them. So, keep in mind that using a low fat cream cheese may affect the consistency of the pie filling.
    • Cool Whip: Feel free to use any non-dairy whipped topping or sweetened whipped cream.

If desired, you can garnish the top of the pie with whipped topping and/or cookie crumbs before serving. For a little extra nuttiness, you can sprinkle the top with chopped hazelnuts, or even pistachios! This No bake Chocolate Pistachio Cake is delicious too.

Liz's Tips for the Best No Bake Pie

    1. If you don't have a food processor, seal the Oreos in a gallon-sized zip top bag. Run a rolling pin across the bag to crush the cookies.
    2. Be sure to thaw the Cool Whip before using.
    3. To prevent the crust from sticking, lightly grease the pie plate with butter or non-stick cooking spray.
    4. For a chewier crust, you can bake it for 10 minutes in a 375°F. oven. Just be sure to let it cool completely before adding the Nutella filling.

    Nutella Pie Recipe FAQs

What is the best way to store a no bake pie?

Store leftover pie in the fridge for 3-4 days, covered. Or, freeze for up to 1 week. The pie filling will not freeze completely in a regular freezer, so you will not need to thaw it for very long (if at all) before serving.

Do I have to chill the pie before serving?

To create a firm filling, you will need to chill it. If you want the consistency more like a thick pudding pie, feel free to enjoy it right after assembling it, without chilling first.

How will I know when the Nutella pie is ready to eat?

The longer the pie is chilled, the thicker the pie filling will become. You will know it’s ready to enjoy when it is at the consistency you enjoy best.

    Ingredients

    Crust

    • 24 Oreos
    • ¼ cup butter melted

    Filling

    • 13 oz Nutella about 1½ cups
    • 8 ounces cream cheese block-style, softened
    • 4 ounces Cool Whip thawed, or substitute with whipped cream

    Toppings (Optional)

    • whipped cream
    • chocolate cookie crumbs

    Instructions

    • Make the crust. Add all of the Oreos to a food processor and process for 30-60 seconds, or until the cookies turn into crumbs. Add the melted butter to the cookie crumbs and pulse to combine.
Alternatively, seal the cookies inside of a gallon-sized zip top food storage bag. Roll a rolling pin over the bag to crush the cookies into crumbs. Then transfer the crumbs to a bowl and stir in the melted butter well to combine.
    • Press the crust mixture into a greased pie plate. Transfer the crust to the refrigerator or freezer for 30 minutes.
    • Make the filling. In the bowl of a stand mixer (or use an electric hand mixer and mixing bowl), mix together the Nutella and cream cheese until smooth and slightly fluffy. Fold in the Cool Whip with a spatula until combined.
    • Scoop the Nutella filling into the chilled crust, then use an offset spatula or the back of a spoon to smooth out the top.
    • Return pie to the fridge for 1 hour to allow the filling to set.
    • If desired, garnish the top with whipped cream and cookie crumbs before serving.

Helpful Notes and Tips From Liz

    • For a thicker crust, use 3 cups of cookie crumbs and 7 tablespoons of melted butter.
    • Feel free to substitute graham crackers or a different flavor of Oreos for the crust.
    • Be sure to thaw the Cool Whip before using.
    • For a nicer presentation, you can garnish the top of the pie with whipped topping and/or cookie crumbs before serving. For a little extra nuttiness, you can also sprinkle it with chopped hazelnuts.
